Wanted to update my video card and heard the main issue to watch for was bottle necking between CPU & GPU.

Don't want to trow extra cash on something my old CPU can't keep up or vise-versa.

So hoping you guys can lend me a hand on a list for picking the right GPU card for my CPU.

Would like to finally play some of the middle core games out there.
Mostly stuff like Skyrm rpg & action adventure stuff.
I can't keep up with shooter games!

So this is what I got, nothing compared to you GODS out there, but not all need to be gods, just happy peons.

Would like to mention that I was advice about the HIS Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB GDDR5 AMD Graphics Card.
But can't seem to find that used anywhere near, even Craiglist.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, Service pack 1, 64bit

Mother board: N68S3B Ver. 6.x http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=517

GPU : AMD Athlon II X3 445 processor 3.10 GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103872

Ram: 2 x 4GB Intel and AMD platforms http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233132

POWER SUPPLY: Diablotek DA Series PSDA400 400W ATX12V Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817822011

Monitor resolution: 27'' 1920x1080

Any other info needed just let me know. Thanks for your help again!

maybe look at an r7 360
http://slickdeals.net/f/8730731-xfx-radeon-r7-360-79-99-after-mir?v=1&src=SiteSearch

the N68S3B doesn't appear to have a core unlock feature.

if you're going to upgrade the CPU to a phenom II x4 or buy a new computer, a 950 might be a better idea
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487236&cm_re=950-_-14-487-236-_-Product
you should still be able to use some of the performance the 950 offers even on the athlon II x3 in many games.

In skyrim the athlon II x3 will probably hold you back a bit though (40-45fps average) unless you overclock it.

So, I guess my PC is pretty much outdated or probably never really suited for high performance gaming.

Let me throw this in.
I recently installed the game Ori And The Blind Forest, as well as this game called Goliath.

Ori system requirements:

  • OS: Windows 7.
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ @ 2.8 GHz.
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM.
  • Graphics: GeForce 240 GT or Radeon HD 6570 – 1024 MB (1 gig)
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c.
  • Storage: 8 GB available space.

Goliath system requirements:

OS: Windows® 7, Windows® 8, Windows® 10
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo, AMD Athlon™ X2, or equal at 1.6GHz or better
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX® 9.0c-compatible, SM 3.0-compatible, 1GB VRAM
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 2 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX® 9.0c-compatible, 16-bit

Is my current setup supposed to handle any of these?
I asked because both run in slow motion even after tweaking down the resolution and stuff.

I could invest on a new build but if upgrading the GPU is enough for now that's were I'll stick with.

For the near future, could someone built me parts list.
Something that can easily handle Skyrm, not that it's my favorite, but I hear it's a demanding CPU/GPU game.

I could probably afford around $700 but of course everyone likes it as affordable as possible.
I'm not afraid of used parts either.

Thanks for the feed back!

OP, I don't see where you've listed your current GPU? Do you have one? Or are you using chipset onboard graphics? If so, no wonder and game you've tried playing is a slideshow.

I would recommend a NV GTX750/750ti, for around $100. (Keeping in mind your PSU is made by a brand known more for burning out and burning things down, than powering gaming PCs. Check http://www.jonnyguru.com/ for reviews from that brand.)

It's on the title:
Visiontek Radeon 5450 1GB DDR3

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129189

Under device manager that's what I see for graphic card.

Location: PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0
Device Status:This device is working properly.

Got a brand new PSU ready for installation:
1 x ($29.99) EVGA 100-W1-0430-KR 430W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Continuous Power Supply Intel 4th Gen CPU Ready with $10 rebate.
I could always return it if I need more juice!

No, that PSU is probably fine. (Edit: I mean the new one, of course.) I would up my recommendation to a GTX950, since you're getting a new PSU, or wait for Polaris 11.

I checked ebay, and the phenom II 955 is the only one that makes much sense since most of the quadcore phenoms are ~$50 there.

didn't see anything on craigslist, though there are quite a few core i5/i7 sandybridge (2xxx) computers in the ~$200 range.

as for the gtx 950 i would pick whatever's cheapest, which is currently this one
the msi is pretty consistently ~$120 AMIR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127935&cm_re=gtx_950-_-14-127-935-_-Product
it'll run a bit louder than the larger gtx 950 variants due to the compact size, but will fit in more cases.
