Help updated CPU and Blue screen

I updated my CPU from an E6600 to an E8500 I got from Ebay. I have a new H 212 Cool Master heat sync that should be delivered tomorrow.

I couldn't wait to get started. Installed the new CPU with its factory heat sync and fan. since the cool master isn't due till tomorrow.

Rig posts and starts up fine. I updated the bios to the newest revision prior to installing the new CPU.

It all looks great but when I play a game it will crash within a few seconds and give me a BSOD for a second and then re-boot. I have tried my best to monitor the temp but I can't watch the temp while in the game.

Is their something I need to do within Bios?? Ready to put my old CPU back in and make a complaint to the EBAY seller, but I want to make sure its not me first.

I will wait to do anyhing harsh until I get the new heat sync installed tomorrow, but wanted to check in with you great people first.

again I didn't really see anything to change in the Bios. I was using the auto overclock feature with the E6600 to OC by 10%, but that I shut off and set to standard. Hoping I am missing something. I am monitoring my temps with Core Temp and I'm 40C on core 0 and 37C on core 1 as I write this. going to run prime95 and see what happends.

System:
Asus p5n32-e sli plus
E8500 upgraded from the E6600
2x GTS 4500
4x 1 gig corsair sticks XMS2-6400
OZC 700 watt supply

Well I ran prime95 for a couple minutes. Temps stayed under 42C. I had the Task Manager showing CPU usage at 100%. Everthing looked ok, but then I moved the mouse and got a BSOD and reboot.

So did I get ripped off from Ebay? is this a junk CPU?

Not to threadcrap or anything, computer Parts Lesson #1, never buy computer parts from eBay. Most of the time you have very little return options and bad communication with the seller. Stick to Newegg or amazon, I swear you won't regret it.

Try with just 1 stick of RAM......what ram are you using anyway, these are different FSB CPU speeds!

try unplug power cord, clear cmos, take out battery then put back in, load defaults in bios. try 2 stick of rams for now, GL

I agree. Also check volts, sometimes old mobos that predated those 45nm cpus will put out incorrect voltage and you have to manually set it to correct.

Alright, big smile on my face.

I pulled the CMOS battery to reset everything. noticed the clock speed was low 2Gigs each on boot. Continued into windows and was able to fool around with BC2 and call of duty. watched the temps...everything seemed pretty good. Started to investigate the clock speed and found the bios started up with it on 6 as a multiplyer. Changed it to 9.5. Benchtested with BC2 and was impressed. Set everything up to max with a high resolution. Found a map with 32 players and the game ran smooth as silk! Very happy. I've now gone and over clocked it to 3.64 GHz which is a full 1 GHz over the max I was able to clock my E6600 to. I have prime95 running now in the back round and will let it go overnight. Temp is only up to 54C with the stock Heat sync so thats great. I gave it some adjustments. Don't think I had it mounted good the first time. Was getting much higher reading before.
If all go's well, tomorrow after I get the new CoolMaster 212 installed I'll start to have some fun trying to break 4GHz manually using the OC guide I was linked too here in this section.

Thanks again people you really helped me out. Thought I got a junk CPU.
Psyched now, cheap upgrade and I am able to max out the settings in my favorite game. I think I might buy Battlefield 3 now...maybe I can play it on low.

Hate to rain on your parade but my e8200@ 3.ghz barely plays BF3 on 64 player servers but its more playable on lower number ones for BF3 a q9550 would have been a better choice.

Single player on the other hand plays just fine on the dual cores just get ready for the rage in multiplayer .

I wated a Q9550 but my mother board is too old. Doesn't support it so I was afraid to buy one. I almost did, but checked the mobo support page and found out the Q6850 was the highest quad I could get. I felt they we still selling for more than I wanted. I figure by this time next year I will be building a new system with a I7.
