help uninstalling xp to put back on 2000

ok.. i dont feel like screwing up everything on my computer by doing something wrong while trying to get rid of xp too put on 2000. .. so what do i do exactly?... i was told i should put win98 back on and then upgrade it too 2000? ... whats your guys idea's/thoughts on this? ... thanks for your time.
