Help understanding NIC

Hey, I have heard that the NIC can somehow "speed" up your internet... I actually don't understand/beleive that, how is that possible? The more I think about it, it depends on your ISP (To my knowledge)

So if you could please help me understand this a little better I would appreciate it

I think what was meant by "speeding up" the Internet is that Ethernet connections are much faster than modem connections, and you'll therefore have much faster access.

Other than that, a NIC is just a hardware device that converts bits to frames and vice-versa -- it cannot do anything else, AFAIK.
