Hi, i just got the E105-S1402 laptop and really like it, but am having some problems.

My sister also has the same one and hers seems dead quiet, but on mine i can hear the HDD accessing stuff, is this normal? I dont get why one does it but the other doesnt.

my sisters is completely fine, but mine, no matter what type of activity is going on in the hd, you can hear. should i exchange it for another?

it wouldnt bother me so much if they werent the same effing computer.

Do you have the same hard drive in each computer - brand, model number, speed?

I can hear my hard drive moving when I don't have music playing and it is quiet.

If it is fairly new, and you are running Vista, there is a lot of initial indexing that goes on. That could be what is happening.

oh, and yes, same everything, i checked the models.

If they are the same model hard drive, then I'd have to go with the indexing answer.

its disabled on mine and enabled on hers.

hers was "optimized" by geek squad, but they didnt actually do anything. my first one was as well, but it still had this issue.

Is acoustic management enabled on one, but not the other?

that option is nowhere to be found.

in addition to the annoying ticking noise, there is a super high pitched whine. like so high pitched some people cant hear it.

luckily best buy is good about returns so far. they all say it shouldnt be happening, especially since my sisters is perfect.

High pitched whine? I remember a friend last year went through three XPS m1330s because of a high pitched whine created by the processor/motherboard. Eventually decided to live with it.

Maybe just chalk it up to bad luck.
