HELP!! Trying to load Win2000, but getting error

I'm currently running Win98 on a 1.1 Ghz Tbird on an Asus A7V w/ promise ata 100. When I try to install Win2K on a seperate partition it gives me an error "inaccesable boot device" or something like that just before it tries to install in DOS mode. Could it be because my HD is located on the ata100 promise controller and Win98 lists it as a SCSI device under system properties? If so, should I press F6 or whatever right before Win2K starts to install when it asks for SCSI or RAID devices?

I have everything enabled concerning bootable devices in BIOS and I really don't know what to do. Anybody have any similar problems and can help me out, or suggest anything I should do?

Yes, you need to press F6 to load the drivers. it doesn't ask for the disk right away (this confuses some people who think pressing F6 didn't work) - later in the installation it will ask for the floppy.

I have almost the same system setup and it wouldnt work for me either. Pressing F6 gets it a little further after it loads the drivers from the floppy, but once it tries to start Win2K, it gives a stop error and inaccessable boot device message. I cant figure it out. I have heard that the only way to make it happen is to move our HD's to the reg. IDE bus and install, then switch them back, but what a pain. Geez Oh well.

I installed 2k on an Abit KT7 RAID - it was on the highpoint ata100 bus, so it can work (unless it's a specific problem with the asus.

For Win2k/NT4 I had to get it off the RAID device, load OS, load RAID driver, shut down system, back to RAID, re-boot system, everything happy.

Search the Tech Support forum, your answer is there. I finally got mine installed🙂.
Same mobo and 2 ata100 dirves on the promise controller😀
