Help! trying to capture video from my camcorder through firewire...extremely dark!

I have a Sony TRV27 digital camcorder. I have hooked it up to my computer through the firewire port. The video looks fine on the camcorder LCD but once I get it on to my computer it looks extremely dark. I have one of those monitors that has a super bright mode for viewing movies so I don't think it is my monitor. I have also burned the video to dvd and it looks dark on my t.v. too. I am using Pinnacle Studio 9. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
 
You can adjust the brightness in Studio 8, but don't overdo it, you will get a grainy look.
