I have a first gen core i5 XPS 15 laptop from dell.

The problem is clicking/sparking sound from power adapter.

If i play a flash stream in one browser window, and scroll up and down in another it can click as many times as about 150 per minute?

If I leave it idling it can click as few times at 10 per minute?

I don't know how loud to call the clicking, but I would roughly say that some keyboards click when you depress keys. The clicking is higher pitched, shorter, and roughly 25% as loud.

I've called dell about the issue and they told me to update the bios. No change. Sent me 2 power adapters, one with the same model number, one with different model number, all at 90w I think. No change. I got annoyed with the replacement adapters, and either threw a shirt to muffle the noise, or threw a pillow on them. They overheat and quit working temporarily. I kept the original adapter.

I've searched some online tech support forums and found.

1. Studio 65w adapter compatible and silent.
2. One 90w xps adapter silent.
3. many 90w adapters click.
4. Possibly 130w xps adapter silent.

5. After motherboard replacement on xps 16 and testing 3 power adapters. 130w makes less clicks than 90w.
