I did a low level format on my Maxtor HD and installed Win XP Pro.. I was having trouble with some drivers on my IWILL and ATI 64 VIVO so I thought I'd just do another Low Level Format and reinstall Win 98 SE. After Low level format, I put the Win 98 CD in and tried to install but I got an error (can't really remember exact message) but it was something about NSFT and need to create a MS-DOS Boot Partition. FYI: I also recieved an error that said I had the wrong version of DOS.

I've done another Low Level Format and I'd like to know what I need to do to install 98SE and partition my HD with XP on another drive.

First I will like to know why do you do a Low Level Format, you only need to do that when the HDD is having a lot of bad sectors or errors, but to do a clean install just formatting the HDD is more than fine. I would suggest to go the Maxtor page and look for a bootable software after a LLF and go from there.

God luck

When I had a problem with Maxtor's software I called their TechSupport and they advised me to do the low level format.
