Everytime I try to format and install Windows 2000, the formatting stops at 69% and stays there for over an hour. HELP PLEASE

go into the bios and set your cd rom as your primary boot device and it will start the windows installation directly off the cd. make sure to change the bios setting back to boot from the hard drive first when you are finished with your installation.

He shouldn't even really need to do that. The BIOS will ask if he wants to boot from CD, and if he doesn't press any keys it'll roll over to boot from HD or floppy. If he set those as the next boot options, of course.

most likely a dead drive, or a bad sector. This happened to me at work on a very old hdd. What you do first is run scandisk, and auto fix errors. This will lable bad sectors and during a reformat, it'll skip over these sectors and format the rest of the drives.
