Hi people - I wanted some help with my first attempt at overclocking. I have an Epox 8RGA+, and an athlon xp 2200+. I haven't unlocked it yet (so if that is the major problem with what I am describing, let me know that). I flipped the jumper that allows the FSB to go between 133/166 on the board. Then went into the bios and switched it to 166 (and then also changed the memory speed to 166, from 133). Rebooted, and the startup recognized the processor as a 1500+, and said it was using a 100 FSB. Any ideas on what I did wrong? And am I totally wrong in thinking that it is just THAT easy to change the FSB or one of the other settings?

Thanks in advance for your patience and advice in helping a complete newb out. Hoping to really get into this a lot more.

You need to set that jumper to 133 cause thats what your CPU is.You should have bought a 1700+ or 2100+ Tbreds. These seem to be the better overclockers. If your 2200+ is a TBred than there is no need to unlock anything. You can just set the multiplier you want in the bios. After that try 166 in the bios and if it doesn't boot you need to raise the vcore voltage.

Yes - it is a Tbred. So I guess that eliminates one possible error (the need to unlock it). So if I up the FSB to 166, what would I change the Vcore voltage to? Or where would I find such info? Sorry if this is redundant with something previously posted.

2200's are Tbred-A's, not Tbred-B's.. the A's don't overclock well at all. I don't believe the A's were factory unlocked. Also, if you ever did get a 1700 or 2100 Tbred-B + pc3200 DDR, the 8RGA+ has the potential to go well over 200MHz fsb, because it includes a northbridge voltage control. I would like to get my hands on a mobo that has one of those.
