I have a gigabyte nforce GA-7N400 pro2 mobo = $95
AMD CPU 2600+ barton run ilke a champ at 3200+ (11x200) = $95
Heatsink cooler master HHC-001 = $20
total= $210

But today fry's has a combo Intel 2.8 GHZ C version/ Albatron 865 pro with serial ata for $280

I'm confuse now . What would you buy ? for value , performance . Which choice is the best?

Your barton will be as fast as the 2.8. No need to waste your money. I'm waiting for the price of the athlon 64 to come down. I've been running a 2.4b at 2700, and a lowly duron 1.6 overclocked at 2000 matched the p4 in at least one benchmark. I had to return it due to the cheap motherboard Fry's sells with it's amd combos (k7vta3 is awfull). So I'm no longer impressed by the p4's performance. I would wait for prescott and better chipsets for the athlon 64, then make your move. That combo price isn't that great anyway, when you add sales tax, which you don't pay when you order online.

What you've got there with the AMD system is fine. Then again, I am heavily biased toward AMD. :)

I might get a different board as well as a different heatsink and fan combo, but it's all a matter of preference. It's all a matter of what can get you to 11x200 (or higher).

is this going to be a full time job for me, correcting the BS from the left (AMD).....

1) I had muy hands on a Barton 3200+ for 2 weeks with a review shortly to be posted and only in a few test did it beat my 2.4@3.0ghz.....Otherwise it performed a lot like a 2.8c.....I am not a big gamer so this is pretty much in encoding, rendering, scientific, distributed computing (SETI), etc.....

2) You had a B buddy not the same as a C and Hyperthreading makes a big difference

3) I think the board you had wasn't a dual channel DDR mobo either...I mean how neutered of a p4 system could you have and try to tell this guy you are not impressed....

You really don't know what you are talking about so refrain from telling this guy stuff about the P4....

I say get the AMD anyways....I too don't like the mobos they combo stuff with though the albatron is probably good enough to get to 250fsb or 3.5ghz....If you were going to OC the AMD chances are you were with the AMD as well....The 70 bucks is pretty big price but forgetting what oldie talked about since I have had a 2500+ @3200+ barton trust me the P4 can easily oc to a level to beat the AMD in almost everything except gaming and probably would do that as well...

Now I have more confuse:
I ran to fry's last night . I didn't get the intel combo but i got the AMD64 3000 for cheap price . The manager gave me the AMD64 3000 for $200 and gigabyte k8npro for $127 . After I PM 20% off with micro center . Total $327 for the combo amd 64 3000/ gigabyte mobo. Hey don't let people from hot deal forum know about this thing . They will kill me because i don't post this 20% off in hot deal forum

You all give me the best choice

Thank a lot
