help to configure a system to support four Dell 2001fp monitors

I am trying to configure a system to support four Dell 2001fp monitors. I am not a gamer therefore the performance of the graphic cards is not of the highest priority. Can somebody help me to select two graphic cards (each of which comes with two DVI outputs) to drive these monitors? What kind of motherboard do I need? Do I need to buy a MB with two PCIe x 16 slots? Thanks a lot.

"I am not a gamer" could mean many things.

Basically, don't count on getting any sort of 3D support _across_ all 4 monitors, no matter what solution you choose. Quadro NVS 400 doesn't support that, AFAIK. If you just want to run a 3D app once in a while, I am uncertain as to how it would be accelerated, and/or which monitors it would be accelerated on. I've done dual monitor with two (different) cards - on Windows and Linux, the primary card is all that got accelerated.

If 2D is all that counts, a pair of 5200s (or 6200s, if you need PCIe) is more than enough for your needs.

As for the mobo, nForce4 SLI motherboards have quite a number of nice features in addition to the SLI, so if you can afford it (I assume you can), I would go with one of those. Maybe the A8N-SLI Deluxe, or something.

My 6800GT allows 3D accelleration on more than one monitor as well as video playback across monitors, sometimes. Depends on what video mode (span, dualview, clone, etc).

Have you actually tested this? Or by card, do you mean monitor?
