Help! I just put together this system with an Epox 8RDA, Athlon XP 2100+, Asus Ti4200 128MB, and Windows XP. The problem I am having is that every time the system boots up, XP seems to not be able to load my video drivers! XP will boot up into 1024x768, 32 bit, but the refresh rate is down to something like 60 or 70. When I open up display settings, it says "Display: (Default Monitor) on " and that's it! No NVidia anything. When I click on advanced, Adapter type is blank, and adapter information is blank.

When I open up device manager, the NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 is listed under display adapters, but it has the yellow exclamation point on it that means it isn't working. When I open up the properties, it says under Device status: "This device cannot start."

I have been able to get the drivers to work successfully by uninstalling the hardware (from Device Manager) then clicking "Scan for hardware changes", then loading the nvidia drivers when XP finds the card. This is a severe PAIN IN THE ASS, however, and the problem just returns the next time I boot the system.

Can anyone help with this? I've tried detonator 41.09 and 43 and it's still happening. Help!

Thanks! Avi

Did you have another card in there before (like an ATI, perchance?). Also, did you remove the drivers completely when you switched versions?

Is the card an AGP 8X model? If so, make sure AGP 8X is enabled in the BIOS, or perhaps try disabling AGP 8X in the BIOS just to see if it works. Also make sure AGP speed in the BIOS is set to 66 MHz.

You might want to upgrade to Windows XP SP1 (service pack 1) and see if that clears it up.

Is that a new card? Have you tried it out in other machines (perhaps it's the card at fault)? If you have another card (like a GF2 or something) try it in the machine and see if it exhibits this problem.

Since you tried installing several versions of drivers on there, try removing the old drivers completely with Detonator Destroyer (get it at guru3d). Also, try using the WHQL certified 41.09's from nVidia's site (if you did already, try another version, like 40.XX or 42.XX).

Is that an 8RDA or an 8RDA+? Either way, try flashing to the latest (non-beta) BIOS on their website. For the 8RDA+, the latest one is dated (1/29), I'm not sure about the 8RDA.

Are you running at overclocked or stock speeds (for the motherboard)? If overclocked, try setting it back at default speeds and see if it works.

My main suspicions are that this is either a configuration problem (something isn't set properly in the BIOS or in Windows), or a problem with the Video card or the Motherboard.
