Hi guys, Need some help with overclocking my system. I have

Gigabyte GA965DS3 Rev3.3 motherboard
intel 2180 @ 2Ghz
Thermaltake TMG I1 CPU cooler
2gb (Now 1gb)OCZ platnium PC8500 1066mhz 5-5-5-15
8800gt 256
600watt Ultra PS

I had one of the memory sticks fail on me, and i am going to rma it for a new one.

I want to achieve 3-3.2 GHz, I am new to this old motherboard and new to intel. Since i have factory overclocked ram, i would like to take advantage of it. What do you guys think?
Also what is this System memory multi in bios 2.00-4.00 are the options? what kind of voltage to the ram and cpu? i have the core temp, orthos and mem test program already installed. thanks for taking the time to read this.

walk through the guide at the top of this forum... u ought to be able to just set the fsb to 266 for your first stop... the chip ought to do 2.66ghz with no more voltage if it's a 'good' chip... work up from there...

+1:thumbsup:

I have a E2160 and as for bios settings, I set them to manual. To whatever your VID is, set it to that in your voltage settings, make sure you set PCI-E to 100mhz. Change your FSB to 266 like "cubeless" has sugested, adjust your ram timings to the default settings, ratio to 1:1 and reboot. There is your "quick" start. These chips are pretty easy oc'ers and you shouldn't have much difficulty getting it to 3.2 - 3.4 + with your HS. Do stress tests and enjoy! :)

I have two rigs with E2140s installed, running at 1.41875v (BIOS), in GA-P35-DS3R v1.0, F9 BIOS, at 400 x 8. I have Patriot 2x2GB DDR2-800 5-5-5-12, running at DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 1.8v.

Even though you have fast RAM, it really doesn't help much to run it faster than 1:1. IOW, the gains are mostly only theoretical in nature.

I suggest trying for (eventually) 400 x 8, as that maxes out the FSB pretty well and the RAM pretty well. I don't see any benefit to faster RAM, you may feel differently.

how do you set the memory ratio? is that the same thing as SPD 2.00-4.00? i also have my ram running @ standard voltage which is 1.8v i think. I believe OCZ says to run this ram @ 2.1-2.3 v. What are signs to look for when you need to apply more voltage during an overclock?

Yes, run your RAM @ the 2.00 multiplier. That's actually the 1:1 ratio on Gigabyte boards. You should definitely give that RAM +.2-.3v of vDimm, unless you keep it @ 1:1. And you'll know you need more vcore when your overclock starts becoming unstable.

I think there is an issue with my ram. Everytime i rasie the FSB the Ram acts up. I am keeping the Ratio @ 1:1, and with such a small overclock it fail memtest after memtest. But in it's stock setting it passes no prob. It is OCZ DDR2 8500 runs @ 1066. But my motherboard only registers it as DDR2 667. I am keeping the voltage @ stock 1.8v with the ratio @ 1:1. I have had the cpu up to 3GHz runnung orthos CPu stress test only and it seems stable @ 1.4v. Maybe my rams sucks or I do! Any input?

If the RAM requires 2.1v or more, then give it to it. That's probably your problem. Adjust VDIMM to +0.3v, and re-test (with a Memtest86+ bootable CD).
