HELP!!! This isn't the slot car race track I had as a kid

After trying to determine what each of our kids' major gifts were going to be, we decided on an HO scale electric slot car racing set for our 5 year old. We found the best price from Lifelike direct and bought a racing set that had 45' of track for $40. Most bang for the buck, right????.............................

This freakin track layout is 5'X9'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to find a layout that that I can utilize to "shrink" this track layout down to 4'X8'. I'd still like him to have the figure 8s type layout and some overpasses. Can anyone find me a good site that would show me a layout that incorporates these features or does anyone know where I can find a book with various different layout designs????????

Half the fun is making your own designs! 🙂
Chuck the instructions, set aside a couple pieces of track, and build it on a ping pong table.
Dang, now I got a hankering for one of those sets again! I remember the ones that you could steer, don't know how they worked, but you could change lanes. Musta been a gimmick, I guess.

This is one of my favorite sites.SlotCar

I bought a track last year (Tomy) with the SuperG+ cars. My boys and I have alot of fun. I'm sure you will too. I have about 30 sites in my favorites folder but I'm not smart enough to know how to send them all at once. If someone could tell me, I'll e-mail them to you.

I don't have the answer, but I swear, man, when I was a kid that was the one thing that I wanted most in my whole life. I get excited just thinking about it. Seriously.

Don't know how the steerable ones work, but I can tell ya' the slotless ones ain't worth a darn. Just like the slotted ones, they depend on the electric wires imbedded in the track. The set I got had too much space between the power wires and retaining wall on the outsides of the banked curves. Without fail, the cars would shoot up into that dead space and stick there. Oh well.

I'm excited for your 5 year old. He (or she) is gonna' love that.

Yep. Can't remember the name but in England there were some really kick-ass slotcars. Not rinky dinky ones and boy did I ever love them.

Get a double set and as said early, a ping pong table.

Use your imagination and think 3 dimensions. You do not need to use all pieces.
