RIGHT in the middle of exam week and now I'm left with a gimp laptop. Whenever you move the screen, ever so slightly, it will shutoff immediately. You have to push the power button to turn it back on. When you do, the laptop boots up normally, as if it didn't realize it shutdown improperly.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Does anyone know where I can take it to get fixed?

The only upside is that I got to buy a new T61 during their anniversary sale + my friends Employee Purchase Discount. Wasnt' planning on this until Christmas though.

Sounds like it may be a loose ribbon connecter between the screen and mobo.

I guess I'll try to take it apart and see what I can see. Hopefully someone documented this on google. Thanks!

Well, I found a great website that included pictures on how to take this thing apart. I was able to get to the cable that connects the LCD to the mainboard... unhook and reconnect. I honestly didn't think it would help since the problem happens when you jiggle the screen, but everything seems to be working ok now!! Very, VERY relieved.... and I also learned something new about my thinkpad today: IBM's are solid. Much respect... thank God I didn't have to disassemble the LCD panel.

You know what... I think it was/is the hard drive. I can still reproduce the shutdown when I push or bend the chassis near the hard drive... and I've had trouble with it (the HD) before. I hate refurb.

Still keeping my newly purchased T61 though. I really wanted something with LED panel but I can't give up IBM quality. Plus the Dell M1330 has had major quality issues.

OK now it's getting REALLY annoying. It's obviously NOT the hard drive but I can't figure out how to fix it. I think the original idea of a loose cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard is right. Unfortunately I can't take apart the LCD so this thing is useless now.
