HELP! ThinkPad 770

Harvey

While helping a friend with an IBM ThinkPad 770, we deleted and re-installed the APM Battery Slot (shown twice). We were using the AC adapter at the time.

When the machine rebooted (still on AC), everything re-installed correctly, and Hardware Manager shows everything is OK, and the battery status shows 100%. However, when we shut down the machine and tried to restart under battery power, nothing happens.

My friend says the machine was working this morning, before these changes. Any ideas on settings to check, etc.?

Second problem:

Hardware Manager shows a conflict:

[!] Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller <-- note error flag
Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Controller
Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Controller

Conflicting Device List (all used by Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Controller)

Input/Output Range 01F0 - 01F7
Input/Output Range 03F6 - 03F6
Interrupt Request 14
Input/Output Range 0170 - 0177
Input/Output Range 0376 - 0376
Interrupt Request 15
Input/Output Range FCF0 - FCFF

We tried deleting all three devices and letting the system re-install them, and it did... with the same conflicts.

Any help?

The 2 APM Battery Slots were there because the 770 has provisions
for using DUAL BATTERIES (thus 2 controllers).

You deleted the Primary battery controller (opps!).

What OS are you using?

Thanks for the info. Using Win 98 SE.

It's a day later so I'll have to try to catch up with my friend, again. Got any info on how to make sure the primary controller is installed, first?

Its been a while since I have done it,
remove both instances again, then power down.

Remove the battery.

Connect AC without battery installed and power up machine
and let Windows redetect. Power down. Unplug AC. Replace battery.

If that fails, you will have to reinstall the OS over itself.
