HELP! Thermalright heatsink and mobo compatibility

Does anyone know if a Thermalright heatsink will fit on a Asus A7N8X-X, not the deluxe. And i heard a lot of people combo-ing it with a TT smartfan, does anyone know any other good 80mm fans? Thanks!

Which Thermalright heatsink model are you thinking about? (oops, sorry for the mysterious bolded URL, I pasted the wrong thing 😱). The only one I've heard had a fit issue was the SLK-900, the biggie... and even then, if you want to buzz a little off of some fins to provide capacitor clearance, you're ok.

Smart Fan II draws an unreal amount of amperage, so make sure not to plug one of those into your motherboard. Power it from your power supply. A YS Tech adjustable-RPM 80mm might be a better pick unless ~50cfm isn't enough for you.

I was thinking about the SK-7 and a Smartfan. The capicitators on the A78NX-X seemed to be really close to the cpu so i was a bit worried.

I know for a fact that SK-7 works on the A7N8X-X because I gave that exact combo to a college pal of mine 😎 Do be aware of the need to slide the heatsink away from the raised, solid-plastic end of the socket so that it's not touching. This photo is of the SK-7 on the A7N8X-X and so is this photo, which shows the heatsink properly mounted and avoiding contact with the plastic part of the CPU socket.

HTH 🙂

By the way, I did test the board/CPU combo before sending it. I liked it! 😎 It felt fast and snappy, even with just my old 1700+ in there. The audio proved to be very good too (I played some UT2003 Demo to stress-test the system).
