Help!! System lockups :(

Hi,

Maybe someone overhere can help me,

I have a Abit KT7 mobo without Raid with a T-bird 900

1 5400 Rpm maxtor 8,7 gyg hd ata 66 on ide Channel 1 primary
1 5400 Rpm maxtor 20,4 gyg hd ata 66 on ide Channel 1 Slave

When i turn Dma on on both drives And i copy large files sometimes even smaller files my system Locks up,

After pressing reset (the only way to restart) The dma devices can`t be seen anymore and i have to turn of my pc for a few secs and restart it before they are seen again

But when i turn off Dma on the 20 gyg hd the problem goes away (i checked the hd for errors)
But this isn`t the way to go i think,

I hope somebody can help me Thnx

Do you have the new Chip set Drivers Installed? That might help you.

Yes i installed the lates Via 4 in 1 drivers and even tried to install them piece by peace

Still doesnt help,

I Flashed my bios to the lates Version Available no result

If the problem was that easy I wouldn`t be posting

can u place the hdds on different channels?

I can try and do that but my ATA 66 cables are a little short anyway tnx for the idea
