Help! SSD has disappeared!

Hi Folks.

Last night I decided to restore an image using Acronis True Image 2012. All was going well and once the restore had completed the pc rebooted. And that was it!

The bios beeped but noting else happened, no text or anything. Oh s**t! I have done this a number of times before with no issue, so what could have gone wrong? Once the SSD was unplugged the pc would boot and I could get into the bios.

It's strange because have a Crucial M4 that had been playing up and it went the same way. This OCZ drive I have had for a bit but it is hardly used. The firmware is updated and it had been running fine.

Anyway, I used PartedMagic and made a 60gb partition in the middle of my HDD and installed Windows on that, then restored the same image I had tried to use on the SSD. It worked fine! Obviously it doesn't feel the same as the SSD.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with the drive or what could have cause the problem? Could it be the image or Acronis? And why would the drive being plugged in make the bios not appear/load? I still gets the usual one beep.

Cheers for any advice.

Sounds like the SSD has failed. I'm not sure if this is motherboard/BIOS dependent but my system will not POST either if a failed SSD is plugged in (and I've had a few that have really failed).

There's still a couple of things we can try. What happens if you plug in the SSD while in Windows (booted from the HD)? Does it show up? Can you create a partition?

Update!!
I put the OCZ drive into my old pc. It booted up fine and I could see the files Acronis had installed on it! Very strange, so I formatted the drive put it in this pc and the bios came alive. Ummm, I got the Win 7 disc out and installed windows on it. All is good. Next I plugged in my HDD, still fine. Then I booted from the Acronis boot disc and recovered an image from Saturday morning. All was going well again until the task completed and the machine rebooted.......nothing! No Bios, nothing. I unplugged the SSD and booted from the HDD to the same image I had tried to recovered from.

So why can I recover the image to the HDD and recovering it to the ssd doesn't work? The original image was created on a 64gb m4 (I haven't tried it yet in my old pc) and this is a 60gb Agillity 3. I'm guessing it has something to do with Acronis and / or the image.

Thanks, but I tried that. It's not that it's not recognised by the bios. When it's plugged in the bios never appears.

Most strange thing!

I put the not working drive into my old pc. It was recognised and the files I had restored to it were there.

I took it out and put it back in my main pc and it is working fine. It booted no probs.

What the hell is going on? Just moments before the machine wouldn't even show the bios and now it appears to be fine.
