Follow this routine: http://www.omnicast.net/~tmcfadden/scan.txt

Not very hard. Make a folder, download a file and unzip it to the folder. Download another file. Make pizza. Reboot into Safe Mode With Command Prompt and run one command. Eat pizza, watch malware get vaporized by the scanner :)

PM me the output from the C:\report.html file if you want.

Also, a couple more things.

1) for gosh sakes, make a new user account named Visitors (Control Panel > User Accounts), make it into a Limited-class account, and then password-protect your account. Your newbie pal will have to work pretty hard to infect your system from a Limited account, plus now he can't get into your stuff.

2) scan your system for missing patches using Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer, which is free, and easy to use.

3) if you use Opera, Netscape, FireFox or some other alternative browser, make sure you have the latest version of it. Check this. I saw a writeup just today of a website that actively exploits a FireFox vulnerability to install this scumware, for example.

4) wash your pizza cutter promptly, you never know when you'll need it again :Q

5) if you don't have an antivirus software, or it's pathetic obsolete old-version stuff from years ago, then you might want to check the Consolidated Security stickie in the (ahem) Software section of the Forums for links to some free antivirus software. Make sure to not just install & update it, but also go through all the options and switch on the full set of detection options (spyware/adware, heuristics, compressed/archive scanning).

Here's the command that the .BAT file contains, and this is all one single very-long line, not two:

C:\McAfee\scan.exe /adl /all /allole /analyze /del /dohsm /mailbox /manalyze /mime /html C:\report.html /panalyze /program /streams /unzip /winmem

Just to re-emphasize, that is one single line, despite it having the /html C:\report.html that looks as if it were the start of a second line.

******************************************************************************************************************************************

You could type that manually at the command prompt for the same result, but I figured there was a high likelihood of a typo, with that many command-line switches

Ok cool, give that scanner a whirl now. People with this SpyTrooper/SpyAxe/SpySheriff type of junk are saying it works well
