Hi, I wanted to ask if there is any method to speed up downloads. I use Kazaa lite and have DSL yet most downloads still only run at 2-3 kb/s.

I wanted to know if there is anyway to clean somthing up or something that may speed up downloads. Also I know this is part of the problem, I am running a P3 1.6GHz with only about 256 megs of ram, but I do have XP. Even with these lower parts it should run must fast then this. I have friends with worse machines that get more.

Is there anything I can do??

thanks.

When you get these speeds on Kazaa, it's not because of the speed of your computer or your dsl -- there are a few potential reasons for this. Usualy it's because you are downloading from somebody with a dial up or limited bandwith. What are you downloading? How many people are you downloading from? What does Kazaa show as the total bandwith for the file you are downloading? What is your user level (if it's low, you get low priority)

For example, I've been running a 1gz pentium 3 and windows me with a cable modem, sometimes I get 2-3kb, sometimes I get 160+. It depends of the file and the source(s).

Are you using k-lite k++? If not, you should try this version. Above the search window there is a check box called "search more" or something like that. Check it and let the search run for a few minutes. It will run the search over and over, picking up more and more sources, which will get your higher bandwith and faster downloads.

Check the kazaa boards - there are a ton of posts, faqs, etc on this.

With Kazaa you can only download as fast as the person you are getting the file off can upload. If you are downloading a song of someone with a 56k connection you will never be able to get more than about a 4k/s download rate because their connection cannot output that fast. The way to download fast with Kazaa is to make sure the file you are getting is coming from several people. As soon as you download a file, right click on it and select "Find more sources for download". This will search for people using this file and allow you to get better speeds. Trust me, it has nothing to do with your computer. If you download something directly from the internet you will see how fast your connection can actually go.

umm are you downloading off of people using dialup? cuz you should at the worst dsl speeds be getting at least 20-30K

need to give us more info. your system is not gonna severly affect your download speeds...its either your connection or the other persons.

I usually download from sources that have 8 or more users and a bandwidth of 600. My participation level, however, is low. Maybe thats it.

My advice would be to go to this link and read the faq. Then install the k-lite version of kazaa. There are a lot of reasons it's faster than the other versions, all of which are explained in the faq. Also, you might search the forums there. There are a lot of threads on your questions.
