ARGH this is so fustrating... I just can't stand not having any sound! Okay well here's the problem. I just upgraded from a Live! Platinum to the Platinum 5.1 recently and upon putting it in my machine I found that windows is having problems with this new card. I have been running windows me for a while now and it worked perfectly fine w/ my old platinum but it decided it does not like the 5.1 card. You see the drivers and software will install flawlessly and I'll even get to restart after the installation and get into windows (the system get's updated upon entering windows). HOWEVER, that's as far as it goes. The next restart or shutdown and I can say goodbye to windows. When this DOES happen inevitably (I can't keep my system running forever), my computer will boot and attempt to load windows but it will either freeze on the splash screen or right after that when the splash screen disappears and I see stuff loading. It doesn't matter how many times I restart or shutdown after that, windows will refuse to load no matter what. Luckily however, I will be able to enter safe mode and uninstall the soundcard software and drivers. I have done this procedure over 4 times so far and I finally got fed up enough to say something about it. Okay so I am absolutely sure it is the soundcard b/c my system runs perfectly fine and windows me will load w/o the soundcard drivers or software installed. Say if I just uninstalled the soundcard drivers and not the software... windows still doesn't load. I have yet to try drivers w/o software but I will do that right now and report my results. I just want to know if anyone else has this problems and if they have found a fix. Another odd thing to report is that a few times I was able to get into windows using step-by-step confirmation drivers loading and choosing to NOT load this file:
vpaec.vxd
However, oddly enough It doesn't work for me anymore even if I DO choose no.

if you can, try just the SB Live in your system and take out all other hardware - make sure it isn't a conflict of some sort
