Help, sound problems!!

A friend of mine is having problems with the sound on his PC. He gets sound at start-up and on AOL, but he has loaded in two seperate games and the sound is not working. He says he gets sound from an audio CD, and only owns the two games to load so he can't try any others. The games are for his kids 4 and 8. Everything appears OK under the device drivers, has anyone else had a similar problem or have any ideas that he can try.

He has a:
AMD Duron 1.2
ECS K7S5A using the onboard sound
128 Megs of PC2100
Aopen FM-56 Modem
TNT2 Vid. card w/32 Megs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
This Microsoft Knowledge Base article has a bunch of steps you can try to get sound working. You also may want to consider updating the board's BIOS using the files available here, and/or removing the sound drivers and using the newest drivers available here. If you flash the bios or change the sound drivers, make sure you know which version to use. Good luck!
