HELP!!! Sound Card is acting really weird! DIREGARD! Finally got it!

Folks, I'm trying to straighten out a decrepit old P200 AT format machine for a friend of mine. His sound card died and I replaced it with a Media Vision Pro Audio 16 w/SCSI controller ISA that uses Win98 drivers. It was working just fine for a couple of weeks and now is going berserk. If you go into the control panel and test the default sound effects they just keep going! If you allow Win98 to Open the introductory/welcome screen it just keeps hammering at you - ding, ding, ding, ding, until you close that window. Any ideas or suggestions? I've tried it in both of the ISA slots that it can fit into, it's too long to fit into the others - the cpu is in the way. I've even removed and re-installed it several times but to no avail. Any help would be greatlyappreciated! Knowing my luck it's probably something very minor that I'm overlooking. Thanks folks!!!

Update! Okay folks, now it's really getting weird. I just re-installed everything and now I don't have the volume icon in the taskbar at the bottom and although whenever I test the default sounds and they look as though they should work I get nothing. I'm not showing any conflicts. Any ideas?

Last Update! Turns out that one of the sound cards was dead, the 2nd one works in my system but not his and the 3rd one is good to go! I'll be scratching my head over this for a while!
