another thing..i'm a low level crappy IT person that doesn't know CRAP about network security..yet i get slammed for it...what gives?!

anyways, I deleted a lot of virusses and crap that got installed all of a sudden as soon as a computer at work got connected to the internet (upon discovery, netops @ ucsd cut internet to the computer...so I can't update or do anything...friggin!)

i'm truly truly sorry to do this...but i'm sick and tired of getting yelled @ by stupid netops telling me to get rid of virusses on this computer...i got pissed, deleted anything that i saw didn't belong there...i guess i deleted something I wasn't supposed to...now I have a problem as linked above

If you feel the need to post here to get attention in the tech category... there's something wrong. Maybe you need another forum like virtualdr or techimo.

Reinstall windows and chose "upgrade". That should replace the missing files. Everything else will still be there.

Edit: I think Slycat has this well in hand.

Anyways Win2k (pro or server) or XP (home or pro), and what service pack?

k now i'm off of work...so any suggestions will be done tomorrow

i'll look for to see that key isn't there.

i've already tried reinstalling tcp/ip, heh

one important thing:
one of the instructions in those microsoft sites that come up is:

Verify the desktop interaction setting:
Double-click the Network Connection service.
Click the Log On tab.
Under Log on as, verify that Local System account is selected.
Verify that the Allow service to interact with desktop option is turned on.

problem is, network connection service isn't there :Q

sorry to take time away from you sly, but your posts are well appreciated ...thx :)

i guess tomorrow, i'll update the other thread to see if your suggestions worked
