hello guys

I just got a SLK 900 to use on my Epox 4pea+ motherboard. I am using the bolt down method for this heatsink but the hs is not making proper contact with the CPU. It seems like the black thingy that holds the hs is loose and makes the hs move a little.....

any clues on what to do ?

Thanks

If it is loose, get it RMA'ed. While waiting for an RMA, buy a Alpha 8942. They cost less and perform better. Then sell your SLK in th FS/FT forums, I am sure a buyer will come very quickly :).

Overclockersdotcom seems to still show the Alpha getting smacked down pretty hard by the SLK-900...

True when a high speed screamer fan is used. Otherwise their fins are too close together for air from 'normal' speed fans to give good cooling in between the fins.

I am still trying to find more reviews of this to support it. One sight is not enough...
But if you do not mind a Vantec Tornado fan for cooling, the SLK-900 reigns supreme over the PAL8942 by a whole 4°C

So of the two, the Alpha is still the better buy being it costs less and cools nearly as good.

I really must disagree with that, I have a SLK-800 and even with a panaflo L1A it was doing a great job.

Now I've got a 92mm Panaflo medium on it, and I'm running a Tbred 1700+ @ 2375mHz, 50 degrees at full load for days...

WRONG. i have an alpha 8942, and a friend of mine just got the SLK-900. i tried it on my computer with the same relatively low powered (30 fcm) 80mm fan that i use with my alpha, and the slk-900 was about 4 degrees cooler. personally, i'm quite disappointed with the 8942. even with the base lapped and the heat spreader removed, my temps aren't all that incredibly fantastic. idle temps are generally about 12*c above ambient.
