Well, I'm a junior right now in hs and we're registering classes for next year. I didn't take Spanish 3 this year because I didn't have space (I could have dropped Ap Stats to add it, but I wanted 2 APs this year..). So if I take it next year, I would have a year gap of no spanish and I've probably forgotten alot of stuff already...

The thing I really want to know is how important is 3 years of foreign language for UCs? 2 in the minimum and I met that already. However, last year, my spanish 2 teacher told us that trying to apply to a UC with just 2 years is like applying with straight Cs since it's just the bare minimum...Is that true? Will taking only 2 years severly hurt me? (I'm aiming for UCSD mainly, but maybe LA/B if I do very well this semester) I really don't want to take spanish 3 since i dread spanish...

Thanks for any insight you guys can provide..

It might be tough to jump back into since you've been off a year. I had 4 years of Spanish in HS and I've forgotten a good deal of it.

I took a year off from French to take Latin, after completing French III. When I started French again and took French IV it wasn't that hard although I had to work a little bit harder to catch up with the other kids.

But will he actually do it? I know that unless I'm taking a class I can never get anything done on summer days.

lol....Anyway, in response to the OP, I'd say go for it - it'll look more impressive and such. But then again, I really liked Spanish anyway. :)

I did. I hated it. It was probably a good idea though, even thought I didn't do so hot- lets people who get a copy of your trainscript know that you don't give up as soon as you can.

hell yes. my sister took up to spanish 5 (along with 4-5 ap classes her junior & senior year, getting nearly straight as, along with 4s & 5s on aps, 1380 sat, etc etc) and she still didn't get into every uc she applied to, and this was 4 years ago. but you're considering stopping at spanish 2? oh no, my friend. you should be taking spanish 3 this summer and spanish 4 next year unless you're pulling a 4.0 and have sat scores in the high 1500s. college has become absurdly hard to get into, and last i checked ucsd is one of the good schools, so they're even more selective. buckle up, you've got a lot of work to do.
