*HELP* Should i remove THERMAL PAD on A64 HS?

Just putting together my new rig that i ordered and have a quick question..

On my A64 3200+ Heatsink it already has a THERMAL PAD located on the bottom of it. Should I remove this pad and apply thermal grease or will the pad be enough??? ( I will NOT be overclocking)

Most certainly do not remove the T.I.M.! That's Shin-etsu G751=very good T.I.M. Plus you will void your warranty by using AS products.

If you aren't overclocking, and you don't already HAVE arctic silver, don't worry, the pad will do nicely.

I am not familiar with that cooler or heat sink. but, usually, there is a protective film that you need to peel off before installing. I would clean the CPU with alcohol and when I was ready to install, I would peel off the protective layer from the bottom of the heat sink and install.

Keep in mind that thermal pads are usually for one time use only. If some day you remove the heat sinkl you will need to remove it completely and apply another one or thermal compound.

why do you guys hate on the silver compounds? and what's so good about ceramique?

definatly stick with the pad it does a great job cooling, or at least well enough for the stock heatsink. mine is usually less than 10 degrees over case temp at stock settings.

Well it just had a small plastic cover over the bottom of the heatsink, thats about it.

I just removed that and then installed the HS on the CPU.

40C CPU

Those good numbers so far?

Good question. I love AS5 and ceramique, but I have to admit that I get on average about 2C better temps with AS5. I suppose some people dislike it becasue it has some conductive properties while ceramique has none.

I don't think the stock A64 TIM shuld be called a "pad" at all any more as well its just not...
