I recently got my Gateway 6400 in. I am a Mac user by nature but I am beginning to get to the point where I like to have a PC around as well. That is why I got the 6400.

Well, I found out that @home wants me to pay 10 set up and 6 dollars a month for a second IP. Well, I think that is a load of crap. Since I am running Windows 2000 server I dare say there is a way to share my one IP address between the server and my home computer. Everything I see seems to point to the idea that a Mac should have no trouble connecting to a Windows 2000 server. I know this is against the rules, but for as little as I am going to be using the two computers I think they can stick there extra charge, I mean it would be different if I was routing it to like my whole apartment complex or something.

I tried to go about seting up a routing network, but I was not sure exactly how and thought I could ask thte gurus here.

P.S. please don't flame the Mac thing, I am in the media design field which is dominated by Macs, but I have a computer scince minor and have worked on PCs off and on for a couple years. They just aren't my specialty.

Thanks in advance

You have two choices:
1. Setup a proxy server or ICS on the W2K server. (Connect it to the Inet, and make it pretend to do all the conversations with the 'net).
2. Setup a seperate device (486?) to be a gateway (router, firewall, etc) for all your machines.

The advantage to #2 is that you can use either computer, at any time to get to the 'net. With #1, you have to have the server on in order to get to the net.

The network cables/hardware are a little different, but nothing that can't be learned in this forum. :)
