Help Setting up SETI w/ Mandrake

I finally got my old P133 to boot into mandrake linux, now how do I go about connecting it to my windows network and how do I set up SETI on it?

I'm a total linux n00b so i'm going to need some help 🙂

we'll assume you have the client downloaded? obviously you gotta have that.. BUT:
you gotta pick the right one.. which linux install for SETI did you pick? i think there is a bunch..
i have SETI running on slackware 8.1 in my house... the machine is down right now for upgrades, else i'd check to see which one i have downladed.
it works great with KSETIspy.

I didn't download a client because I have no idea which one to get.

I was going to try to set up SAMBA today but I changed my mind, it looked complicated

😕😱

Here's what I can think of for now, I'll post more tomorrow, after I have gotten some sleep

:

1. The client you want is i386-pc-linux-gnu-gnulibc2.1 (you'd use i686 for ppro or better CPU)
2. To run the SETI client, you just run ./setiathome -proxy your.setiqueue.address:port in the seti directory
3. By 'setting up samba', what do you mean? If you just want to access a shared drive from Linux, the commend is mount -t smbfs -o username=Administrator, password=password //compname/sharename /any/empty/directory

And if you want to do so easy managing on your samba server or any other service on your system, install Webmin.
This very nifty tool can safe you a lot of time and you can configure everything graphical and webbased.

Good luck!

😕

How bout this.....how do I get rid of linux and make the hard disk ready for winblowz installation? This computer is too slow for me to learn linux on 🙁

fdisk

OpenBSD runs fine on my 36mhz sparc. It wouldnt slow down as much as it does if I had more than 32mB of ram. p133 should be fine to learn linux. Learning one of the bloated/modern DEs might be tough though.
