Help, setting up one Sata HD and one reg IDE optical

MSI K8n, i have the SATA HD hooked up into SATA1,

And I have a NEC DVDRW in IDE1, which do I set to slave? master?

If that's all you have, set your optical drive to be the master on the IDE channel.
SATA drives do not have master/slave.
In the BIOS, set the boot priority to the CD when you want to install XP. After that, set priority to your SATA drive so that it boots from SATA.

I think I need to install some sata drivers, but I dont have a floppy drive. Is there a way to make a bootable drivers cd-r disc?

from MSI website-

Right after booting off of the Windows cd, you need to push the F6 key when prompted (Fig-a)
? Next when prompted (Fig-b) install the correct driver from the floppy disk provided with the motherboard, press the S key to specify the driver, and select the correct driver depending on which controller you are using, then press enter key to continue.
? After this Windows 2000/XP will continue the installation, and will detect the S-ATA hard drive to be installed onto.

But I dont have floppy, so what can i do? Slip Stream install? I dont know how to do this, if anyone can help

Well, something is setup wrong then, I get into the WinXP install from booting to disc, it runs the 1st installs at the bottom of the screen, then prepares to restart - back into the installation, but this is where i get a hardware error. Tells me to try restarting, or checking my ram, or chekcing my video card. What is going on here?

I have K8N-Neo4-F

DVDRW set to master on IDE1, shows up that way in bios

SATA HD (doesnt matter setting?), plugged into SATA1 on board, shows up as master on IDE3. bios sees it as MAXTOR SABRE

Also, if I go look at the hard drive in bios, and hit autodetect to detect size and speed, it just hangs on trying to detect it.

Have you disabled RAID in the BIOS?
Have you set up your boot sequence, in the BIOS, to have your SATA hard drive in it after the CD drive?

RAID is disabled. I ended up installing winxp on an a regular IDE today. I still cannot get the SATA to work. I plug it in, and bios sees the drive but when I choose to detect it, it hangs. Might try some other sata drivers later.
