Help setting up new memory

cutflow

Junior Member
i purchased 2x 2gb = 4gb total memory

in the BIOS i changed the voltage to 0.40 (2.2v)

but i noticed that in memory frequency(mhz) it says "800" instead of 1066. so what i want to fix is the 800 mhz and change it to 1066 which is what it suppose to be, in order for it to work as advertise, what do i do?

Check the maker's specs for your board for two things:

1. Check the maker's page for a link to a list of RAM makes and models to see if yours is listed as able to work at the higher speed.

2. Some makers spec the highest RAM clock only as a custom setting in the BIOS. Check the manual for your motherboard or look for a setting in the CMOS to see if you can manually over-ride the automatic clock settings.

Hope that helps. Good luck. 🙂

1. answer=
yes my mobo can handle it, i bought it based on my mobo specs.

2. i'm looking for someone who would be experienced with setting ram settings on the bios which is why i posted. i upgraded from 2x 1gb ram which were 1066 speed, but these new 2x 2gb ram show up as 800, so i know it might be probably setting the "system memory multipler" which i dont know what option to pick. and reading about that seemed confusing, maybe someone here will know

What's the 800? If it is the I/O bus clock speed, 800 is the right value. If the memory has a data rate of 1600 MT/s the actual clock rate is 800.

And that's what DDR means. Double Data Rate which means data is transfered at both rising and failing clock signals and as a result the data rate is double the clock speed.

So look for the name of the setting that has the value 800.
