I'm clueless when it comes to networks, but I just received my netgear cable/dsl router and I'm having trouble setting up the network between the two computers I want to connect. I setup the internet connection so that it is functioning on one computer, but for some reason the connection refuses to work on the other. The lights on the router that indicate that the second computer is connected are on, but the second computer doesn't have an internet connection. I tried setting up the network with the second computer only, thinking maybe the first computer (the one that works) was preventing the second computer from being setup, but that didn't help. Can anyone help me out? The installation guide doesn't mention anything about adding more computers to the network, so I'm guessing all you have to do is the plug the cable in, but that didn't work.

setting up the 2nd computer is identical to the way you setup your 1st machine, i'd go through the manual and check step by step....probably just overlooked something......by the way, on 2nd machine, you mention you just plugged cable in and connection didn't work.....did you go through your Internet Options and setup your internet connection for a Lan?

You need to setup one of the computers as a gateway, and the other you need to set up internet shareing (I belive.) Also, if your not running Windows 2000 pro or XP, change. From my past experiance all the other versions are a pain to use.

Make sure you have set up the tcp/ip as you have with the first computer like trashman said. Can you access the router from the 2nd computer?

Are you using a cable modem/DSL modem? Or are you connecting to the internet via your PC? I wasn't entirely clear on that.
