Hi,
Our small business is currently about to go to a T1 line (100 users), and in the process plan on overhauling the network (the old network is very archaic).
This means new routers, switches, and whatnot. We're looking at primarily Cisco for 3 reasons:
1. The quality- no one ever got fired for buying Cisco.
2. Management has a preference for Cisco for the above reason, so it's also easier to sell the idea to them.
3. I have no personal experience with Cisco networking and would like this opportunity to get familiar, I'd be interested in getting a certification later down the road.
Does anyone have any advice for a Cisco noob? Here's a shopping cart that I've put together based on the recommendations I've heard so far:
Cisco 1841 Router
Cisco PIX Firewall (not sure what model)
Cisco Catalyst 2950 Switches (probably 2 48-ports, with 2 1GB ports on each in order to stack). I can buy more Catalyst switches later on to keep stacking if I need to increase the user base.
My primary concerns is a system that will help to filter out spam, viruses, and of course the requisite firewall and VPN capability (though only minor .. maybe 4-5 vpns at once). I'd also be interested in the Cisco Security Agent, but don't know enough about it to make sure.
Servers will include the typical Exchange server, File Server, Database, Web Server, and Printer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
