help setting up a network...

hi,

i'm going to move into an apartment with a couple of my friends and i need to set up a network to share the internet connection.
right now i have an external dsl modem with a 10/100 NIC card (running winxp), one friend has 56k dial up (win98se), and the other has a mac with an airport connected to a cable modem (osx10). i also have an extra 10/100 NIC card lying around.

in this apartment we're on two floors. two rooms in the basement, one on top. so i'm thinking that it'd be worth it to spend the extra $$$ and go wireless.

so i guess the question is, considering the equipment i already have, what do i need to buy to set up a wireless network between our three computers?
a wireless router, two wireless 11Mbps NIC cards, and the airport? or can i use the airport base, the airport and just get a couple of 11 Mbps NIC cards? and i don't need a couple of other dsl modems as well, do i?
or am i way off track with all of this? do you need any more details?

thanks for any guidance.
