If I run seti@home while watching TV, I get some sort of feedback that interferes with the WinTV's audio. It goes something like ta-ta-ta-tada, ta-ta-ta-tada, ta-ta-ta-tada. It's driving me nuts. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Specs:

Epox 8K7A
1.0ghz AthlonMP @ 1.45ghz
Crucial 256MB PC2100

The background noise stops INSTANTLY when I stop my seti client.

Have you tried running other clients, like RC5? My first thought was to SETI's priority, but it might be that your CPU or memory is too close to your WinTV card, and all the signals are causing interference.

If RC5 makes a lot of noise, it's the CPU proximity. If not, try adjusting the priority of the RC5 client to 5 or 6 (SETI's priority.) If that brings the noise back, it's a priority issue. If not, try Prime95; that should give you some noise if the memory is the problem.

Have you tried the latest chipset drivers? ,sound card drivers?

I seem to vaguly recall these problems before on the rare occasions with VIA chipsets & creative sound cards..............I think!

Whats ya sound card? ,also check you speaker wiring & routing.
Are your TV signals coming via aerial or cable/satelite?

Sound Blaster Audigy

The sound's being fed through the Audigy's line-in. All the drivers are up to date. The distortion only occurs when seti@home is running. (and no, i will not run rc5 ;))

I had this exact same problem! I thought it was dodgy ariel cable (it was running under a door and had been squashed), and replacing that seemed to do it.

Or if not, it could be how my cards were arranged. Is it a new system and a new hardware configuration, or has it just happened. I also have my audio in going into the Mic port on my sound card, cos the line in is also the rear speakers!

My sound card is the C-Media 8738 4 channel card, so it's not a VIA/SB thing. Only thing i can think of is drivers or moving hardware round.

Just for reference, my setup is as follows:

AGP -> Creative GF2MX
PCI1 ->
PCI2 ->
PCI3 -> Realtek 8139 based Nic
PCI4 -> C-Media 8738 Sound Card
PCI5 -> Hauppauge WinTV Primio card

Previously (on old motherboard when i had issues) the sound and TV card were the other way round. Also, before you try changing it all round, get the (IIRC) HCWClear.exe from the Hauppauge website (clears all registry details/drivers)

I didn't try turning off Seti at all, and it would start after using the TV card for about 10-20 minutes.
