I'm loking for processors for my Compaq server-mobo with dual slot 1 and Serverworks III LE-chipset. It doesnt say anywhere if it supports P2, but the chipset itself on different mobos seems to support P2 Xeon, P3 Xeon and P3. Maybe the P2-support isnt official, but will it work? Please help! :)

It should work as long as there is BIOS support...usually if it will support a regular Pentium III, then it should support a Pentium II with no problems. The Pentium II and the Pentium III are similar enough not to make a difference when it comes to chipsets. It's the motherboard implementation that can cause problems.

If it was a Slot 2 board for XEONs, I would be a little worried, as you can't plug a Pentium II into a Slot 2 interface, and there may be VRM issues as well.

Thanks for the answer! I appreciate it!
I will just have to try then. Im pretty sure that it is Slot 1. On Compaq's homepage it says that it uses the Pentium III, not the Pentium III Xeon.
This VRM, whats that? :)

Voltage Retention Module. On Pentium Pros and XEONs, sometimes the VRM is not included, meaning that you would have to buy one, otherwise the motherboard doesn't know how much power to supply to the processor.

Ok. Im pretty sure that I get one with the motherboard. But is it needed for Slot 1 then? Not Xeon or Pro.
If I need one, do I have to have two for dual?

VRMs are not usually an issue for Slot 1 motherboards, although for Compaq's proprietary dual processors designs, you MAY need one. Best thing to do is check directly with Compaq.

Yeah. Thanks. Im still trying to find evidence that Compaq really has a Slot 1 SW III LE-mobo. I sure hope its not Slot 2. But my friends slot 1-processor shouldnt have fitted then :p
