In the next few months, I plan on selling my Alienware PC, which is nearly 3yrs old. Here is a quick rundown of the specs:

-Saucer yellow Alienware case with matching keyboard and mouse
-P4 3ghz w / HT
-1gig RAM
-GeForce5900 Ultra 256 MB
-Plextor CDR
-120 Seagate Barracuda HD
-19" NEC CRT Monitor

I am not sure of what fair asking price for this would be. I have scene some Alienware cases, just the cases, going for 200+ on eBay.

I was planning on asking $700 and seeing what kind of response I get. Does this seem fair, am I overcharging, or am I cutting myself short?

Thanks for any advice!

You're not selling it for months, what does the price right now matter?

Aside from the case, the parts are almost worthless now, let alone in a couple of months. A faster brand new A64 CPU/mobo combo is $100 at Fry's, the graphics card is maybe $50, RAM $75 new, HD out of warranty $10.

CRTs have close to zero resale value, everyone wants an LCD.

I'm sure some sucker will see "Alienware" and pay $700 for it, despite the fact that the parts themselves (aside from the case) are worth maybe $300. ($100 for cpu & mobo, $75 for ram, $75 for video card, $10 for cd burner, $40 for hdd, nothing for monitor unless people actually pay to have those dinosaurs shipped.) And those prices will be on a really good day, & someone doesn't notice you can build an AMD machine that'll absolutely smoke that for gaming for an equivalent amount of money.

Why don't you just replace the components with a now dirt cheap Athlon 64 setup?

Honestly, that is what I am hoping will happen :)

That was my original plan, but the Core 2 Duo is just too tempting. I have to buy a new mobo, memory, and video card either way, so I rather spend another $200 and have C2D.

Also I was asking for 'in a couple of months' just to plan out my budget for a new PC. It sounds like I might try to get $500, but that will still be a stretch.
