I am looking for a way to record some games for my son in law. He loves his team, but can't watch them where he is (or will be) stationed. I am thinking of getting an AverTV Hybrid Ultra so I can use it with my cable/satelite box, but my current laptop does not meet some of the specs, so obviously I am also looking for a new laptop.

So far, the Lenovo and the HP are my leading contenders, but here is my question: I am not sure if I am going over the top, so I am presenting for your perusal the configuration I picked (Lenovo.)

R61 with T8300 2.4GHz processor, Vista Home Premium (Aver needs the Media Center feature), 3GB memory.

160GB Drive, 7200RPM

DVD Recordable

System Graphics Intel GMA X3100 w/ 1394.

I guess my question centers around the last item. I am not sure if I need the graphics card, as the processor shows as having integrated graphics.

Thanks in advance.

No, you don't need a "gaming" graphics chip to do video conversion, but not very many laptops have video input, which will be required for what you seem to be wanting to do. Why wouldn't you just buy a ~$150 DVD recorder? It would be the only component you would need to buy, and unlike a DVD burner, the discs from them will play on any DVD player.
