I need a new m.board and cpu for my wife. I have a new case and 400 W powersupply, an ATI Radeon 7200 and a stick of Crucial DDR 266 w 256 MB from my defunct system. She only uses the computer to type emails. Her hard drive is a Western Digital 80 gig with 8 MB buffer. We have a DSL modem and an Airlink wireless pci adapter to use too. I'm thinking about an AMD Barton as cheap as I can get. Would like this to work right out of the box with no tweeking, but I can install a heatsink/fan that I saved from my Thundrbird 1200 mb cpu. Any suggestions?
Thanks:confused:

If you live near a Frys they have Barton's with NF2 motherboards bundled together on sale for under $100. Also check outpost.com.

Asus A7N8X-X. Awesome board for just $65. Rock solid stable, great performance.

Solid board that is even also good for some overclocking. Basically the standard non-Soundstorm nForce2 board recommendataion around here.
I just got a second AN35N Ultra, no complaints. They have a good reputation. And if it matters, they're a nice deep blue color :D

Edit: by the way, if your RAM is PC2100 a.k.a. DDR266, get a CPU that has a 266MHz bus speed, which basically rules out Bartons. A 1.8GHz Duron perhaps.
