there's this assholish guy on the tweak3d forums (boltsky aka uberverwalter), he had a banned account, whined his ass off got a new account after promising to act good, after warnings, a temp ban, banning, and now i just recently perm banned him. he should've been perm banned long time ago.

he has a log or pm or whatever of me asking him to ddos someone from another forum which i'm a mod at but don't have the ability to ban people (the guy, whomever it was posted really really gross pictures...the other mod was gone for the week, and the administrator was gone for the month...something needed to be done), so he's threatening to release the log to a "certain someone" of me asking to ddos and me giving the ip's of the person posting the filth.

here's what he said
I could just release the log of you asking me to ddos a certain someone and you giving me IPs of members you moderate. Just a thought. 24 hours."

the members of that forum, wouldn't give a $hit that i released some a-holes ip... is there anything he could really do? I really want to tell this guy to fvck off..

he asked for warez and when i locked the thread this is what he said.

I perm banned him over his language...is there anything he could really do though? : 0

There are many threads on the tweak3d forums where he brags about his warez and what not and illegal movie downloading...let him get by with stuff too often : \.

He pretty much has you on that one. Big mistake on your part to provide private information you acquired as a moderator and requesting that he take action.
 
what's the worst case scenario? I mean this is like a cheap form of blackmail, he wants me to unban his account.

like I said, I have plenty of threads of him referring to illegal activities...i guess that doesn't mean anything

worse though : ( , he asked as a favor in return for doing the deed to have an ip address of a certain person on the forum and I gave it to him...

I guess I'm a pretty bad mod...I shouldn've have done that, I didn't realize or think it would do much harm if one newbie's ip address was given out, I think I'll probably resign my position.

...any advice?

It's just so frustrating b/c there wasn't anything I could do to stop that guy on my other forum : (. I tried deleting all his posts, but I couldn't monitor forums 24/7.
 
Once he has something he can blackmail you with, he can always use it at any point. So you might as well just leave him banned.
 
dont sweat it, and dont resign your account. If you hadnt posted this thread, you could claim that whatever he did have was simply made up. In the words of the wise man Wyclef: "It wasnt me!"

i made a mistake and I regret it...I'm talking with the administrators of tweak3d now and they don't want me to resign my priv...

I made a mistake, I wanted that guy gone and so i called on the help of fellow forum members, he replied and said he needed an ip to do anything so i gave it...not thinking about the consequences.

saying I"m a bad mod isn't offering good advice : \.

thanks for the advice, i talked with other admin's and they say he stays banned. I guess it's just my ass if anything happens.

meh...either way...sounds like this guy is pretty much screwed. Imagine if everytime one of us pissed off a mod here they ddos'd us.

I wouldn't throw any of those rocks you have, you might break some windows. Don't be all high and mighty when you yourself are guilty of soliciting an illegal activity against another person.

racist, breaks rules...he should've been gone a long time ago, but I"m a fairly leniant mod. but my back is against wall now : (.
 
Unfortunately, at this point there is not a whole lot you can do. You could meet his demands and unban him, but he could still release the dirt he has on you just to be a prick. He has you by the gonads, and all he has to do is squeeze. Sorry.

Just kidding. Don't sweat it, I think the worst that would happen is the forum admin bans you. Sounds like he already told you he won't do it, so chill out.
 
could i end up being sued out of curiosity? Or the fact that he actually did the attack if anything did occur? :0

thanks for some comforting i guess...i posted a message on the forums, and everybody was appreciative that i came clean and gave me their support so all is not lost I hope.

It's an internet forum for goodness sakes..... you gave out someone's ip, whoopdie doo. I mean, I don't condone it, but your isp isn't really going to care about the politics of a tech forum.

A second forum that I moderate emotionalpunk.com has much older software, which severely limits the powers a mod has. Only the owner of the boards can ban people...all a mod can do is delete a post/thread. A user was posting very lewd pictures faster than I could delete. the owner of the board was on vacation as was the only other mod who could help me delete threads...i asked for the wrong kind of help from the tweak3d community.
 
bump, any more advice. I contacted the people's Ip's I gave out, luckily their ip's have changed and they're just happy the guy is banned.

do I have any retaliation if he does do something? Should i contact his isp about all the software piracy, threats, racist remarks ...or should I just play it passive aggressively if I have anything to do at all :0.
