This is what I did.

1. My email account domain just died? So I went to MSN and changed the email to my google email. When I got a confirmation email, I thought its better to wait for 2 more days, so I clicked I didnot register with this email.

2. Then, I couldnt sign on with either. Email 1 doesnot exist. Gmail has some problem.

3. signed on with the gmail account. told me to change email immidieately. I used a rediffmail account. Then all my info got deleted.!!

Help!! :(

When I changed the email address on my passport account (old one was dead, like yours) I thought it was kosher till I ran Messenger again. Then I found out all my contacts etc. were missing. No big deal as I only had like 10 people on my list and I could re-add them, so I wasn't too pissed. Then a week or two later, all of a sudden it "fixed" itself and I got everyone back (I hadn't added a few people that I forgot about, and then they magically reappeared). The moral of the story is, I don't know wtf MSN's deal is, but you might get your contacts back in a few days.

ddjkdg:
Hotmail deactivates your account if you have not checked your inbox in 30 days. After 90 days of inactivity, your account is deleted. Because your Messenger contact list is sync'd with your address book, a deleted account=deleted contact list.

I doubt anything fixed itself. Because you once had those "missing" people in your contact list, they can add you again to their lists...and you won't get a prompt asking if it's OK to add them to your list.

hatim:
Non-MSN email services (such as Google, Yahoo, yourcompany.com, etc) can be used for creating Passport accounts. However, once you use it to sign into Messenger, you need to verify your email account. And whatever contacts you added to Messenger while using your MSN account stay with that specific MSN account...you must re-add all contacts for any new account you use for Messenger.
