I have problem regarding GIGABYTE GV-R9000 (Radeon 9000)
display card. After installing the driver, monitor goes blank
after the Windows XP boot screen. I could only access into Windows
by safe mode. I format my HDD, install Windows and install the driver
but the problem still there. I tried every version of Radeon driver (even the latest)
but still can't get into Windows after installing the driver.

I tried to install different version of VIA4in1 before installing vga driver
but it makes no different, I still get a blank screen after Windows XP boot screen!!

I also tried different motherboard BIOS settings but it doesn't help.

AMD Athlon 1.33GHz
Iwill KK266 Motherboard (with latest BIOS)
384MB Apacer SDRAM
17' Samsung SyncMaster 753DFX monitor
Maxtor 15GB HDD
Liteon CDRW
Samsung DVD ROM
Creative Sound Blaster Live
Artnet Modem
Windows XP PRO

Please help... Thanks!!!

If this is a upgrade to the new Cats.....

Do you have the ATI smart running while doing the install of the drivers?
I disabled mine for reclaiming memory during gaming, and ended up with some bizzare behavior after installing the new CATs.
If its disabled or manual, change it to automatic for the driver install, then reboot.
Do the driver and Cat install again.

You can turn it back off afterwards.

Welcome to the Anandtech forums, loucm. It's hard to say what the problem is but make sure that your 9000 Pro is seated nice and firmly in its AGP slot and that the connection from your videocard is tight. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck.:)

Turn on the ATI program in the task tray.

Go into Advanced options on Display.

Select Options.

Turn ON ATI task try icon.

reboot.

Re-intall the drivers, reboot, intall control panel, reboot.

Fixed.

I had the same problem ... trust me ... try it.

Someone else told me how.

Do a search in this forum on my user name ... you'll find it.

The original problem sounds like what happens when the video card is running a higher refresh rate than the monitor can handle. All you need to do is boot in Safe Mode and manually set the refresh rate to 60Hz, then reboot normally and find a setting you like. If it doesn't work, wait 15 seconds and Windows will back out of it. This was the problem for at least one other person recently.

The Catalyst 3.0's are DX9 drivers. Try downloading DirectX 9 here.

Your card does not support any DirectX9 features. I would reformat again and use the Catalyst 2.5 with DirectX8.1.

1) install motherboard AGP drivers
2) install motherboard IDE drivers
3) install DirectX8.1
4) install Catalyst 2.5
5) install ATI control panel

If you have a network card installed, check your IRQ's or try booting without it before you reformat Windows. Perhap a different PCI slot for one of your devices would help.

I am running both ATI and Nvidia cards. I must say that for the first time ever, ATI drivers are now equal to Nvidia drivers in performance, compatibility and ease of installation.
