it's supposed to run at 625mhz core and 1450mhz memory right?

well mine's running at 500mhz core and 1188mhz memory. what's going on, do I have the wrong drivers or something? is my system not recognizing the stock speeds? defective perhaps?

i'm running windows xp sp2, AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, and ASUS M2NPV mobo

the model of the video card is Sapphire X1900XT 256mb version. I'm using the latest Omega drivers

thank you

Yeah, once it switches to a 3d app it clocks itself up. Thus saving power when you're not gaming.

there's a 2d mode and a 3d mode that ATI implemented in its drivers.

when it senses youre not playing games or doing something 3d intensive, it clocks to 2d mode, which results in

1) lower clock speeds overall
2) lower power consumption (lower volts, etc)
3) less heat

likewise if youre playing games the drivers will "kick in" the 3d mode and performance should be restored.

Download CPU-Z and check to see what ur pci-x link width is @ stock

PCI-E, automatically set at 16x, 2d clocks. Next thread?

If AT actually had a properly functioning search, I'm sure these threads would at least be fewer.

We need to sticky an ATI thread but the mods don't frequent this place much...double edged sword, I suppose :p

ati's overdrive function automatically incresases clock speed to 621 when in 3d mode

if you change it from 621 to 550, you're downclocking your card!

The solution: use ATI Tray Tools. Disable ATI's HotKey Poller. And set your clocks with ATT. I set mine to 3D clocks and run them 24/7 instead of constantly 2d/3d switching.

so how is overclocking done?
X1900 OC'ing guide

It's not the X1950XTX, but the principles are the exact same. Just make sure you're using ATI Tool 0.25 beta 16 or higher (if there is a higher one) instead of the one they used in that guide.

Also, the latest version of ATI Tray Tools by Ray Adams works fine with your card and controlling driver settings. Just make sure you disable overclocking when installing the ATI Tray Tools application otherwise it will conflict with ATI Tool.

For more information, go here.

It's a pretty short thread that discusses the overclocking options for ATI X1900 cards. I know yours is the X1950, but like I said as long as the applications you're using are the latest ones, the same principles still apply.
