I have a round ide cable and today bios couldn't read my hard drive! I researched this for a bit and found out that rounded cables are not shielded. Is this true and is this why bios can't read the hd anymore?

I plugged in my old regular ribbon cable and surely it worked fine. Problem is that it's ata100 and my hd is ata133.

I think I'm just going to buy a regular ribbon cable that's ata133. Newegg has ata133 cable with Teflon coating: what's special about this coating. Another question: are all ata133 cables Ultra DMA?

And last question ;) what's a good place to buy some regular quality ribbon cables that support Ultra DMA ATA133? Directron?..?

Any help is appreciated.

I do not think the "shielding" has anything to do with your cable being faulty.

I plugged in my old regular ribbon cable and surely it worked fine. Problem is that it's ata100 and my hd is ata133.

An 80 wire/40 pin cable is ata 33/66/100/133 compliant. There is no need to purchase a "special" ata133 cable.

What is the length of the rounded cable? Cables are subject to reflections, especially at ATA133 and especially when they are over 18" in length. Many use them with no problem but there are those who have had similar results as you have described.

Hope this helps.
