Help retrieving files from dying laptop

I am trying to resurrect my wife's laptop from the dead and reinstall her OS (98SE). She has some files on her HD that she needs and I want to save them before I reformat and do a new install of the OS. The laptop is having all sorts of probs and I can only get it to boot off of a floppy right now.

Is there any way to connect the laptop to my LAN through DOS so that I can transfer the files from another computer? Or, am I going to have to manually save them to disk one by one? Thanks for the help.

The laptop has an ethernet plug. Just wondering if I could use the ethernet connection in DOS to connect to my router and if this would enable me to browse/transfer the files saved on the laptop. FWIW, my main comp is running XP.
