I am building a new Conroe system and would like some help with my fan setup and temp monitoring.
Relevant specs are:
Intel E6400 CPU
ASUS P5B Deluxe Motherboard
Zalman CNPS9500 LED CPU Cooler (Comes with Fan Mate 2 - 3 pin)
Antec 120mm TriCool exhaust fan (4 pin Molex with 3 hardware speed settings)
Nexus Real Silent 92mm intake fan (4 pin Molex)
Antec NeoHE 500W PSU
Antec Solo Case
The P5B Deluxe does not work with SpeedFan yet but it comes with Q-Fan 2. It has the newer 4 Pin CPU fan header and 6 additional 3 pin chasis fan headers, 3 of which can be used with Q-Fan.
Can I plug the Zalman (3 pin) into the CPU header (4 pin) and use Q-Fan 2 to control the speed? I believe the 4th pin is for PWM control but there is a setting in the BIOS to change the Q-Fan mode to DC instead of PWM. Will the pins line up correctly if I do this?
OR
Should I just plug the Zalman into one of the chasis fan headers and use the Fan Mate 2 to control the speed and monitor manually?
Also, am I best just to run the 2 case fans from the PSU with no monitoring/control?
I plan to overclock the E6400 but I am trying to keep the system as quiet as possible. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
