I have the A7V133, and have no problem with it at all.

I have my 75GXP 45GB drive connected to the standard IDE controller.

Just to see if there is any performance difference, I connected the drive to the Promise ATA100 Controller, and it took me to a series of BSOD upon entering windows. Something about missing volume, etc etc, but a never ending line of the blue screens...

When it is connected to the standard controller, HD Tach says my read speed is up to what it's supposed to be (~38MB/s).

Would the Promise controller be a better one to use? Would a performance increase be expected?

ive used several a7v and a7v133 boards, and it seems to me that the via controller is just as good as the promise. so i just disable the promise to save an irq

as for the problem of windows not loading, if you do want to use the promise controller make sure its not set for "raid" and also make sure the drivers are loaded, and lastly make sure you dont have any addin cards (nic, soundcard, etc) in pci slot2 (at least i think its pci slot2 that shares irq with the promist) some pci cards dont support irq sharing. so it wont work in that slot if you have the promise controller on
